Green Wireless

Wireless technology has fundamentally changed the way people live and work. It’s letting us do more than ever before when we’re on the go. But mobile connectivity is offering more than just extraordinary communications and productivity. Wireless technology offers people new ways to get around, and empowers businesses in the transport sector to save money while reducing environmental impacts at the same time. From low-cost wireless sensors to location-aware apps, wireless technology keeps America moving while offering new opportunities for sustainability.

The Wireless Foundation engaged BSR, a highly-respected organization dedicated to creating a more sustainable world, to produce a summary report on ways wireless technology reduces the environmental impact of the transportation sector. The report, “Advancing Environmental Sustainability in the Transportation Sector: The Role of Wireless Technologies,” explores opportunities in fleet management, public transit, electric vehicles, as well as parking and traffic enabled by new wireless technologies.

The Wireless Foundation was a pioneer in recycling retired wireless devices. Through the Donate a Phone and CALL TO PROTECT programs, The Wireless Foundation raised more than $3.5 million for charities that work to end domestic violence by refurbishing and recycling retired wireless devices. While the Foundation has discontinued its wireless device recycling programs, promoting the critical role of wireless technology in environmental sustainability remains a core program area.
